Pro bono: MCL has successfully represented its client in litigation against Honda Motors
In September this year an unprecedented judgment of St. Petersburg court came into effect. It concerns a Russian subsidiary of auto giant Honda Motors which was obliged to replace the vehicle with a new one in spite of a number of production problems and manufacturing vehicle defects that were found.
The resonance of this case lies in the fact that cars having a manufacturing defect were recalled throughout the world by manufacturer except Russia whereas the dealers refused to do that. For a long period of time this problem was widely discussed on the Internet including social and business networks and specialized forums.
So far Honda Motor RUS (official Honda representative and distributor of Honda in the Russian Federation) did not lose a single case for replacement of car proceeding despite the fact that all claims were justified. Only at the end of May 2012 due to the efforts of MCL lawyers the court issued the judgment to satisfy the claim and replace the car. In October, 2012 the judgment was upheld the hearing of the Court of Appeal.
This case became another successful pro bono project for MCL. Our company will continue participating in such processes in order to protect the interests of economically disadvantaged individuals and organizations. We hope this case will be widely publicized to help Russian car owners to defend their rights on similar matters.
