Maxim Ali has written for the internet portal Regforum about the new fines for data protection breaches

Since 1 July, Article 13.11 of the Code for Administrative Offences has introduced new fines for breaches of data protection.

Most notably, the maximum fine for a breach has been increased from 10,000 roubles to 75,000 roubles. This increase substantially raises the risks for companies, as the fine can be imposed for each individual breach, which can easily amount to a very significant figure.

Senior Associate at Maxima Legal, Maxim Ali in his column at the portal Regforum considered what constitutes personal data, what steps companies must take to comply with the legislation on data protection as well as for what kinds of mistakes can fines be imposed and the potential size of such fines.
