Maxim Ali has commented on the draft order which lists the personal data to which law enforcement agencies will have access
Novaya Advokatskaya Gazeta in article “What kinds of users’ data will law enforcement agencies get?” discusses the new draft order of the Ministry for Communications which confirms the list of users’ personal data which should be stored by communication service providers and also the requirements of the procedure for providing access to such data to law enforcement agencies.
After reviewing the document, Senior Associate at Maxima Legal, Maxim Ali commented that the changes “impact not only internet companies but also independent developers and development teams which are only planning to launch a new product connected with the exchange of messages between users”.
Maxim also drew attention to the fact that “among the information on users which should be collected is included information on their location; while neither the Law on Information nor the Government Decree of the Russian Federation dated 31 July 2014, number 759, did not explicitly state that the services should report the users’ geolocation.”
